MLS Drafts LSC Alumni Mark Sherrod
Jan 27, 2014, 6:06 pm
Mark Sherrod was drafted into the MLS this past week. Mark, a former Lakeway Soccer Club alumni, was picked by the Houston Dynamos and was the 32nd all-around pick for the draft. Sherrod recently graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Memphis, where he played forward all four years.

Mark played for Mike McDonald on the Lakeway Kickers team for 6 years during middle school and high school. According to Mark, Lakeway Soccer in Morristown, Tennessee, was the next avenue for him to try something different and more challenging. His dad commuted Mark and his friend from Knoxville to Morristown to play for this team, in which helped him improve both his tactical and technical level of play.

Our director of coaching, Jenny Ryan, had the opportunity to speak with Mark and get some advice for athletes who want to pursue the next level. When Mark was asked who his inspiration was, he didn’t hesitate to say his family. His mom and dad have worked very hard to provide for him and his brother. They were willing to drive, pay, and support Mark on all his soccer endeavors and he couldn’t feel more "blessed."

When asked to give current athletes advice, he said this: " You can’t just wake up one morning and become a professional soccer player, but you CAN wake up and want to work everyday towards that goal. It takes COUNTLESS hours working at something you love."

Mark Sherrod is the first player from Lakeway Soccer to be drafted into Major League Soccer and we are proud to support him throughout his endeavors! Go Houston Dynamos!
